SHOPIFY CRO · CHECKLIST

A Shopify CRO checklist for stores that already have traffic

Use this checklist to find conversion friction systematically instead of collecting random best-practice ideas.

The best CRO checklist is not a list of fashionable features. It is a sequence for checking whether the right visitor can find the right product, understand it, trust the offer and complete the purchase without unnecessary friction.

1. Traffic and landing-page fit

  • Do paid and organic visitors land on pages that match what they searched or clicked?
  • Are campaigns sending broad traffic to the homepage when a collection or product would be more relevant?
  • Does the landing page immediately confirm the offer, product type and next action?

2. Navigation and product discovery

  • Can customers understand the main product categories quickly?
  • Are filters based on attributes people actually use to choose?
  • Does site search cope with product names, common terms and misspellings?
  • Are out-of-stock or unsuitable products dominating collection pages?

3. Collection pages

  • Are product titles readable and specific?
  • Can shoppers compare important differences without opening every product?
  • Are prices, discounts, variants and availability communicated clearly?
  • Does default sorting reflect commercial usefulness rather than accident?

4. Product pages

  • Is the value proposition visible before a long scroll?
  • Do images explain the product, scale, finish and important details?
  • Are delivery, returns and payment information easy to find?
  • Are compatibility, dimensions, sizing or what-is-included questions answered?
  • Are variants understandable and unavailable options handled cleanly?

5. Mobile experience

  • Can users browse with one hand without UI elements fighting for space?
  • Do menus, filters and variant selectors work reliably?
  • Are important details buried beneath oversized imagery or accordions?
  • Is the add-to-basket action obvious at the point the customer is ready?

6. Basket and checkout

  • Are delivery costs and thresholds explained before checkout?
  • Can customers edit quantities and variants without confusion?
  • Are discount rules clear?
  • Are available payment methods visible early enough?
  • Does the basket introduce distracting cross-sells that compete with checkout?

7. Trust and reassurance

  • Are returns, contact details and delivery expectations credible and easy to find?
  • Does the site show real business information rather than generic trust badges?
  • Are reviews presented with enough context to be useful?

8. Merchandising and cross-selling

  • Are related products actually compatible or relevant?
  • Can customers complete a set or solve a full need without searching again?
  • Are recommendations driven by useful rules rather than random catalogue proximity?

Where Shopify's native theme or apps cannot support the right logic, custom Shopify development may be the implementation route.

9. Measurement

  • Do Shopify orders broadly reconcile with analytics?
  • Can you compare conversion by device, channel and landing page?
  • Are add-to-basket and checkout events useful enough to locate friction?
  • Are you measuring revenue quality, not just conversion rate?

10. Prioritisation

Do not try to fix every item. Prioritise issues where evidence, reach and commercial impact are strongest. A visible problem affecting a large share of mobile product traffic should normally outrank a minor design preference on a low-traffic page.

What happens after the checklist?

If the list reveals several competing problems, our Shopify CRO service combines diagnosis with implementation so the output becomes a working improvement plan rather than another audit PDF.
